The sun shone brightly on the 30th annual Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance, which took place on the first weekend in August 2008 and it was one for the record books. The majestic views from the field were breathtaking as white tents lined the field of the most exclusive gathering of 230 of the best classic cars and motorcycles, and 50 brand new vehicles, on the grounds of one of the country’s most prestigious mansions.

“The activities surrounding the Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance weekend, both old and new, were all up in attendance,” says Matthew de Larcinese, the Concours Executive Director. “Not only did the kick off event, the
2nd Annual Hangar Party
eclipse last year’s enthusiastic crowd, but the inaugural
Destination d’Elegance,
Seminars,
RM Auction
and
Vineyard on the Hill gala
boasted record attendance numbers as well. We are pleased that everyone enjoyed the weekend.”
Concours Sunday amassed crowds that have not been seen in over a decade. For six hours, shuttle busses poured spectators out onto the grounds of Meadow Brook Hall to enjoy what was believed to be the best collection of cars in Concours history. Larry Moss and his Car Selection Committee provided a variety of automobiles that were an enthusiast’s lover’s dream. If you never thought of yourself as a “car person” before the show, you became one by the day’s end.
With an impressively deep and rich field of the world’s top Concours automobiles, the two Best in Show cars, awarded to
Sam Mann for his 1935 Duesenberg J Roadster
and
Joe Cassini III for his 1927 Isotta Fraschini, were the ones to beat.
The 1940 Indian 4 cylinder owned by Berland
Sullivan, took the Best in Show Motorcycle during the presentation of classic motorcycles, featured for only the second year ever on the Concours field.
Overall, the 30th Annual Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance saw over 12,000 guests on Sunday, each who gained an experience of a lifetime. “Next year will be a greater line up of events as we continue to grow and compete on the world stage,” says de Larcinese.
